這裡要介紹大家一些在美國最常用到的聊天問句。在開啟雙方對話前，通常可以運用一個簡單的問句與人交談，也許是問好，也許是詢問，但只要你敢先開口，你絕對會有很多跟外國人交朋友、練習英文的機會。
 
1. How are you doing? 你好嗎？
美國人見面時候最常用的打招呼方式就是”Hey! How are you doing?” 或是”How are you?” 。不然”How’s going?”也很常見。這種每天跟別人打招呼的習慣，就是跟美國友人建立良好關係的開始。很多人都覺得美國人很冷漠，不跟自己打招呼，但自己又何嘗不是對美國友人很冷漠呢？試著主動一點吧！

1.Talk about who you know and what you have in common. Mutual friends, bosses, hometowns, etc.
聊一聊認識的人或者雙方的共通之處。比如共同的朋友、上司，或者家鄉等等。
2. Ask relevant questions about life, work, hobbies, and pop-culture. Keeping abreast of current events will provide you with great conversation builders. Lead with “What do you think of…?”, “Have you heard…?”, “What is your take on…?”, etc. Stay away from negative or controversial topics, and refrain from long-winded stories.

Childhood obesity’ can be predicted by check at birth’

Researchers say a baby’s chance of being obese in childhood can be predicted at birth using a simple formula. The formula combines several known factors to estimate the risk of obesity.
研究人員說，嬰兒肥胖的機率能在出生時用一個簡單公式推算。該公式估算包括肥胖風險的幾項已知因素。

Hundreds of racing pigeons vanish in ’Bermuda triangle’ of birds

Pigeon racers are mystified after hundreds birds disappeared in an area they have now dubbed the Bermuda Triangle.
數百隻賽鴿（在英國上空）神秘失蹤之後，賽鴿手大惑不解，他們如今稱這個區域為「百慕達三角洲」。
Only 13 out of 232 birds released in Thirsk , North Yorkshire, on Saturday by a Scottish pigeon racing club made it back to Galashiels, Selkirkshire. It follows a summer on which hundred more have vanished in the same area.

 
胡適先生說：「做學問要於不疑處有疑，待人要於有疑處不疑。」亦即勸勉我們做事要細心，待人要寬厚。如何該疑處生疑，這的確是大學問。
俗話說太陽底下無新鮮事（"There is no new thing under the sun."），對於習以為常的事物，我們戒心降低（absentminded），久之麻木不仁（oblivious）。一旦慣性養成，自己也變成問題的一部份，對不合情理的事，就不再起疑。
國家地理雜誌做過精心設計的陷阱實驗（well-orchestrated con game）：旅客在旅館櫃檯登記，櫃員其實有二，一人站立處理，一人藏在櫃後。
收件後，第一人假裝掉筆，撿筆時第二人趁勢站起，兩人服裝、髮型、身材完全不同。實驗顯示：很少受測者察覺兩人有異，可見一般人視而不見（on cruise control）情況極為嚴重。
這種心理適應過程，其實有學理根據：一般人注意力能全力集中的時間很短，且一次只能照料一個對象，多了就「見樹不見林」("can't see the forest because of the trees")。
這時有心人如果膽大心細，巧為佈置（window dressing），就在最不可疑的地方下功夫，狡計往往因其明目張膽（hide in plain sight）反而得逞。
孫子說：「形人而我無形，則我專而敵分。」敵明我暗，對方注意力不能集中，力量自然分散。所以，憑藉障眼法，光天化日（in broad daylight）敵人不察上當（pull the wool over their eyes），自然手到擒來。
例："Most of us are more likely to be absentminded than have Alzheimer's disease, but how can you tell the difference."「一般人偶爾會失神，但不至於老人癡呆，雖然有時兩者看起來很像。」
"They lost the election for their oblivious to the mounting pressures for political reform."「對排山倒海而來的政治改革訴求茫然無知，是彼等敗選主因。」
"He admitted his seemingly hard work for our department is nothing but a well-orchestrated con game."「他坦言：對部門看似賣力的演出，其實都是假的。」
"He was laid off for being on cruise control and was detached from the world; he paid limited attention to events which occur around him."「他對週遭事務完全脫節，對重點視而不見，終於被解聘了。」
"The realignment may be more window dressing than a substantive change in how the company does business."「公司改組，看似隆重，但並無實際效益。」
"Can China hide in plain sight and will her relationship with Taiwan tear a close-knit US-Taiwan relationship apart?"「大陸和台灣打得火熱，美國和台灣的關係會不會受到影響？」
"The judges knew that these criminals were trying to pull the wool over their eyes with their long, drawn out story."「騙徒夸夸其詞，目的想用言語矇騙，但法官不為所動。」

Japan faces ’extinction’ in 1,000 years

Japanese researchers on Friday unveiled a population clock that showed the nation’s people could become extinct in 1,000 years because of declining birth rates.
日本研究人員週五發布了一個人口時鐘，該時鐘顯示，由於出生率持續下降，日本人恐怕將於1000年內滅絕。
Academics in the northern city of Sendai said that Japan’s population of children aged up to 14, which now stands at 16.6 million, is shrinking at the rate of one every 100 seconds.

端午節 Dragon Boat Festival
　　 The Dragon Boat Festival, also called Double Fifth Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth moon of the lunar calendar. 
　　 端午節又稱五五節，是農曆五月初五的節日。
　　The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is a significant holiday celebrated in China, and the one with the longest history. It is one of the most important Chinese festivals, the other two being the Autumn Moon Festival and Chinese New Year.
　　在中國，端午節是一個值得慶祝的重大節日，有著悠久的歷史典故，端午節也是三大重要節慶之一，其他分別為中秋節和農曆新年。 
　　 The origin of this summer festival centers around a　scholarly government official named Chu Yuan. He was a good and respected man, but because of the misdeeds of jealous rivals he eventually fell into disfavor in the emperor's court. Unable to regain the respect of the emperor, in his sorrow Chu Yuan threw himself into the Mi Lo River.
　　 而端午節的由來是古代有一位博學多聞的官吏屈原，他是一位愛民而且又受到尊崇的官吏，但是由於受到一充滿嫉妒的官吏所陷害，從此屈原在朝廷中被皇帝所冷落。而由於無法獲得重視，屈原在憂鬱的情況下投汨羅江自盡。
